No Heat Curls

This is a great way to achieve curls without heat. It’s good to give your hair a break from all that blow drying and heat curling. I bought 2 packages of jumbo sponge rollers for $1 each at Dollar Tree. I love that store, everything’s $1!

Best time to do this is before going to bed. Just so you know the condition of my hair, it was washed the day before. I did a shea butter treatment and applied Organix Argan oil of Morocco blow out cream. Before I put the rollers in, I brushed out my hair. It already had a little wave in it which helps when you’re trying to wind your hair around the sponge roller. Normally, my hair is super straight. You can still do this with clean straight hair. Just dampen your ends with a little mousse to make it sticky, it helps adheres to the roller better. I don’t recommend rolling damp hair, you’ll wake up with damp hair and no curl. I tried that one already. It’s best to use dry hair.

Before I started rolling, I spritzed the ends with water, then rolled. I had to use hair fasteners (they’re like giant bobby pins) for some rolls that didn’t want to stay in place. Once your hair is set, give a quick mist of water. These rollers are soft enough to sleep in, but you will feel them in your head before you go to sleep. I’ve been doing this for some time now. They don’t bother me when I sleep, I’m so used to them.

The benefits to this? Curls without heat damage and a huge time saver in the morning!

Here I am all rolled up and ready for bed.  I only used 7 rollers.  You could use more if you want extra curls.

Here’s the results after removing the rollers and styling.  I usually tease my crown and spritz in a little hairspray.  I actually like these curls better than hot rollers.  You just need a few minutes to put them in before bed,  but it’s well worth the little time it takes!

  1. Your curls look amazing. I’m always looking for new ways to curl my hair without heat. I’ve tried a bunch, but haven’t found anything I’ve like enough to use all the time.
I’m going to give this a try.
